Not So Ruby Slippers

A few weeks ago I saw this idea for upcycling shoes on Pinterest and HAD to try it. I made one pair and loved them so much I decided to make another. This d.i.y. isn't hard but it is a little labor intensive and takes about 2 days before the shoes are wearable.

Supplies:  

Shoes (doesn't matter if they are scuffed I bought mine for $5 at Goodwill)

Glossy Mod Podge

Glitter in your choice of color

Paint brush

Acrylic paint in a color similar to your glitter

 Painters tape (optional)

If you are a perfectionist you would start by taping off the sole and inner shoe but I skipped this step. Start by painting your shoes with the acrylic paint, it doesn't have to be perfect, one coat should do it. If your shoes are already a similar color to your glitter you can skip this step.

Wait for the paint to dry before moving on.

Now is the fun glitter part. Mix your glitter into some mod podge about half / half, you want it to be thick and gloopy but spreadable. Paint glitter onto your shoe and let dry for at least an hour. Repeat until desired glitteryness but don't over due it you shouldn't need more than 4-5 coats.

Last paint 2-3 coats of plain mod podge to seal and waterproof.

Viola awesome glitter shoes!

I couldn't help but wear them to work the next day.

I Hate T-Shirts

Yay a craft post.

Yesterday when my closet collapsed I found some t-shirts that I no longer wear (because they are a little tight) but I love the fabric, color, and design so I decided to upcycle them. So today I am doing a D.I.Y. turning old t-shirts into cute spaghetti straps with four cuts and two minutes of sewing.

This mod is sooo easy to do, I ended up modding five shirts for myself and one for my sis-in-law in 3 hours! Also this mod is great for those t-shirts that are just a little too tight because the shirts turn out a little more baggy than when they started.

To start choose an old t-shirt make 4 cuts:

1: Cut off the sleeves. Make sure to cut the seam off as well.

2: Cut a straight line just under the collar

3: Cut off the bottom of the shirt taking care to keep the seam it in tact.

Next, flip the shirt inside out. Fold a 1 inch flap at the top of the back and front and sew strait across.

The strap will be threaded through this so make sure to leave some room.

Now take the strap you cut off the bottom and cut it open on one end. Then attach a safety pin and thread it through itself turning it inside out.

Keep the safety pin on to use while you thread your new strap through the shirt.

To finish off the straps you can tie a bow or just sew the two pieces together and thread the knot into the shirt.

Viola cute tank top in ten minutes!

Time For Bed, Oh And Your Closet Exploded.

So my first post and it has nothing to do with crafting. 

It has everything to do with having too many clothes.

Last night I fell asleep watching my hubby play video games. Well around midnight he wakes me up and says "Babe it's time for bed, oh and your closet exploded." Still half asleep I was thoroughly perplexed by this statement and went to investigate.

Turns out sometime between ten and midnight the shelf in my closet ripped from the wall, struts and all. Everything on top of the shelf fell to the ground making my closet look like it was run over by a tornado.

I only have two guesses as to what happened:

A) One of my cats tried to climb my clothing

B) I have too many clothes and their combined weight was just too heavy for my closet

Either way I guess it is time for some spring cleaning in my closet!

Unfortunately I don't have pictures of what the floor looked like I was more concerned about getting it cleaned up so I could get to the bathroom on the other side of the closet.
